c.1930

An innovation of Sheaffer in the 1920s was the development of a method to produce caps and barrels of a plastic material. The first plastic pens were made in 1924 of pyroxilin plastic or radite. The material was stronger than hard rubber and offered more variety of colours. These pens survived the time up today.
