Adelaide Hall :1901-1993 : American Jazz Singer : Ink signature on an album leaf.

Adelaide was born in Brooklyn, New York and first became known to the general public when she recorded “Creole Love Call” with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Her career blossomed and she moved to Paris where she enjoyed success on par with Josephine Baker. In 1938 she settles in The U.K. and when war broke out used it has a base to entertain troops in the U.K. and on the continent. Post war she moved back to America to continue her career. However, when her husband died in 1963 she gave up working for a while. On her return she added straight acting to her repertoire as well as cabaret and other singing engagements
