Italian magazine published on the 5th of July 1914, just few days after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire) which caused the beginning of World War I.
"The Mule" was a weekly journal of Catholic and anti-socialist inspiration, in constant competition with "L’Asino di Garantara" (famous satirical magazine at the time).
"Il Mulo" was published in Bologna from 1907 to 1925. It was conceived and directed by Cesare Algranati, better known under the pseudonym of Rocca d’Adria.
He produced harsh campaigns against anticlericals, freemasonry and socialists using biting articles, cartoons and false advertisements.
