Bound in full leather and hand tooled gilt title on front board as well as gilt tooled raised spine bands, very decorative. All volumes have square boards, strong spines and some wear to the corners (to be expected with the age) (see all photos for details). Interiors: All pages are clean, bright and lightly age toned. Each photogravure, etching, wood engraving and typo gravure has a descriptive tissue guard. Some plates with descriptive printed picture guards. A fabulous set of reference, revised to include current (at the time, anyway) American literary figures and characters. Many American artists are represented within these volumes. These volumes come from a private collection that was donated to a library.
