In the center, against the background of the mountains, there is an image of a torch in the form of hands holding a bowl with a flame. Ruins are symbolically depicted on both sides of the torch under the mountains - the aftermath of the earthquake. The date "12/7/1988" is under the torch. At the top there is an inscription "ARMENIA", divided by a flame into two parts "ARM" and "ENIYA". Along the circumference there are inscriptions “EARTHQUAKE ZONE”, “MERCY”, “CREATION”, separated by dots.

In the center is the image of the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts in Yerevan. Below it is an ancient manuscript in the form of a scroll and the inscription "YEREVAN". The date "1959" is under the inscription. Below the date is an image of a bird with a sword and shield. in the upper part along the outer rim of the coin the inscription “MATENADARAN” in a semicircle.
