Super fine vintage belt or chumpi from the Cuzco area of Peru. I purchased it in Cusco in the early 1980s and it likely dates from the 1950s-60s, as it was already considered an "antique" textile then. Handwoven from Alpaca wool on a backstrap loom by the Quechua or Q'ero peoples. The material is quite soft yet sturdy and surprisingly thin and light - measures 48 1/2" X 2 1/2". Each side shows the same geometric designs but in different colors.
