Description

A very delicate study of figures at rest. With a lady putting her feet up on a stool and male figures in the background. Very well presented in a washline mount and gilt frame. With a Sally Hunder label to the reverse for the exhibion 'Twenties Veterans' 1988. Purchased by a David Abbott. Unsigned. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing. Minor marks on the frame. Overall in fine condition.

Biography

Reginald Goodainter was an artist who was apprenticed to a structural engineer on leaving school and served with the Royal Engineers in Mesopotamia during World War I. Goodfellow was employed as engineer by Ministry of Works and did not begin a formal art training until 1927 when he enrolled for classes at Westminster School of Art under Walter Bayes and his engineering career continued until 1959 together with his painting. His work was shown at the Parkin Gallery, London, the year after his death along with that of Walter Bayes, in a show entitled 'Pupil and Master'. Woodcuts by Goodfellow are in the collection of the British Museum.
