Antique L. H. Vaughan Classical Pewter Bowl Circa 1925

This classical pewter bowl was made in the 1920s at the shop of master craftsman L. H. Vaughan Taunton Mass. Vaughan opened shop in 1915 at his home in Taunton Mass. and shortly afterward was elected Master Craftsman by the Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston. Vaughan had important one man shows at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston--Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC--The Art institute of Chicago and numerous additional noteworthy shows over the course of his career. Elanor Roosevelt became an admirer and customer of Vaughns work and when FDR was elected President numerous pieces of Vaughans tableware were purchased for the residential area of the White House and remain in use there to this day. Vaughan is credited for the revival of colonial style tableware in the US. This bowl is a fine example of Vaughans work. The bowl is signed at the base---L. H. Vaughan--Taunton Mass. Pewter. The bowl does have scratches--nicks and small bends around the rim. These imperfections are commensurate with age and use over the last 100 years and can be seen in the photos. It is diameter 11.0 in. diameter, by 4.375 in. high. Guaranteed to be as described.
