These are 'Decals' otherwise known as Waterslide transfers. In all Options the decals are sold as a pair.
They can be used on the whole range of Mamod static and moving engines including Traction Engines and Steam Rollers. They can be cut to size or applied 'as is' on the models to replace those which have been worn, damaged or scorched, or to simply and quickly add additional decoration on trailers, accessories or diorama.
Good quality, laser printed, they are easy to apply on new painted metal or on woodwork. They can be applied over the top of old decals, particularly on fireboxes.
They are an alternative to self adhesive examples with significant advantages:
- Cheaper.
- Can be applied over the top of old signage without the need to remove the original.
- They can be slid and re positioned more easily.
- They are thinner and do not leave an adhesive residue.
- They can be used to hide rivets or areas of paint damage.
- Less affected by heat.
- Easily replaced.
- Once in place, if lacquered or put in a warm oven for an hour, they will last longer.
These are with a white backing and unlike the clear backed variety are intended for use on dark backgrounds.
All dimensions are shown as Length x Width and refer to the printed area. In all cases they are sold as a pair.
Option 1: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two Mamod Minor MM1 decals. These have cut outs to fit around the firebox holes and measure 35 x 16 mm
Option 2: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two Mamod SE2, 2a & MM2 decals each measuring 45 x 15 mm. This is slightly larger than the MM1 decal but has similar cut outs to fit around the holes in the side of the firebox. These were sometimes used on the chimney end of the firebox on an SE3 engine. They can be used anywhere (see picture of the oiler can courtesy of e bay user phoenixandbaggy...my thanks to him).
Option 3: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two SE3 decals. They each measure 63 x 20 mm. This oblong decal was sometimes used on the chimney end of the firebox or most commonly on the crank side of the firebox.

Option 5: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two medium size Old Mamod decals. Not pictured but are just smaller than option 4. They each measure 34 x 24 mm
Option 6: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two Small Old Mamod decals. Not pictured but are just much smaller than option 4. They each measure 20 x 14 mm
Option 7:
Two Bowman (Dereham) Round decals. This delcal is found on the entire range of Bowman (Dereham) static engines, EXCEPT THE 175, including the metal (M) and wooden base (E) versions. e.g. M150, M158, M122, M180 and E101. Each are 35 mm diameter. Sometimes these were positioned on the left and sometimes the right of the crank.
Option 8:
Two Bowman (Dereham) Small Round decals. This smaller version be of use on the smaller engines. Each are 24 mm diameter. Sometimes these were positioned on the left and sometimes on the right of the crank.
NOTE: Options 7 & 8. Bowman (Dereham) is not the same decal as the Bowman (Luton) engines because these were completely different companies.
Option 9:
Two Bowman (Luton) decals measuring 24 mm square each.
Option 10:
Two Bowman (Luton) decals measuring 34 mm square each.
Option 11: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two decals. These are a short version of the Mamod TE Canopy graphic. The TE1 and TE1a. They each measure 200 x 8 mm in red. This version does not have the scrolls on either end. Option 12: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two Mamod SR Steam Roller black decals with gold lettering. They each measure 245 x 8 mm for a trailer or diorama. A shorter and cheaper version is at Option 13 for use on shortened canopies.
Option 13: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two black decals with gold lettering. This (not pictured) is a cut down version of option 12 which can be used on the SR1 or SR1a (where the canopy has been adapted and shortened) or on the side of steam wagons. These two each measure 180 x 8 mm and do not have the scrolls at either end.
Option 14:
Two "Fit Scuttle Here" decals. These were used on the rear of the firebox of late TE1 and TE1a as well as SR1 and SR1a's of the same vintage.They are frequently burnt off or disfigured by rust. An original is shown in the image (picture 6). They each measure 35.5 x 13 mm and are the same size as the originals.
Option 15:
Two Large 'Fred Dibnah & Sons' decorative decals. These have black lettering on a white background so should be used on a dark surface. They each measure 85 x 13 mm
Option 16:
Two Large 'Fred Dibnah & Sons' decorative decals. These have a clear background so should be used where you want the background colour to show through them. They each measure 85 x 13 mm
Option 17:
Two medium 'Fred Dibnah & Sons' decorative decals. These have a white background so should be used on a dark surface. They each measure 58 x 10 mm
Option 18:
Two medium 'Fred Dibnah & Sons' decorative decals. These have a clear background so should be used where you want the background colour to show through them. They each measure 58 x 10 mm
Option 19:
Two WD (War Department) Long decals. They each measure 283 x 8 mm
Option 20:
Two WD (War Department) Small decals. They each measure 42 x 22 mm
Option 21: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
This option is a pair of decals as used on the early flat Mamod canopies. It is on CLEAR decal paper so is designed to be used on a light coloured background only. Unlike the other canopy decals this one should be cut so that each word fits between the securing screws along the side. Gold lettering. Total length 160 mm x 8 mm. Each word is 48 mm long.
Option 22: THIS OPTION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED FROM SALE.
Two Mamod TE Long Canopy. The TE1 and TE1a have two decals, one on either side of the canopy. They each measure 253 x 8 mm long version in red. Two additional versions of these canopy decals for the earliest TE1 canopy are available at listing: 334760827711 Just copy this number into the e bay search box.
- Ensure there is no loose paint or rust on the area where the decal is to be applied.
- Wipe the area with methylated spirit to remove grease and soot.
- Cut off the white surround carefully around the edge of the decal very close to the design. You will need steady hands AND very sharp small scissors especially for the ones with curved edges.
- Immerse in clean distilled or rain water to which a couple of drops of washing up liquid have been added and leave to soak for 3 minutes.
- Position on the desired point on the model. Using a clean finger or a brush slide the decal off the backing paper. If it does not move easily re-immerse and repeat.
- Ensure there are no creases and that the positioning is correct.
- Dab (do not rub) with absorbent kitchen roll to remove excess water.
- Put the item to one side to allow to dry overnight and indoors before firing.
- For a longer life, bake in the oven at medium temperature for 1 hour and apply a VHT (Very High Temperature) lacquer.
