Phillips Holmes was an American actor. 48 film credits in his short career.
 In the early 1930s he became a popular leading man, most notably in 
Josef von Sternberg's An American Tragedy (1931). 

At the start of WWII, Holmes joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. 
August 12, 1942 he was killed in a mid-air collision in northwest Ontario.
