This doll is wearing a red cross on the left arm and is made of paper mache. It looks to be very antique, but I am not able to date it exactly. Bought back in the 80's. The doll looks like a Kewpie and is handpainted. It is approx. 13 cm / 5,10 inches tall.

Some numbers ("4/25 9'1909") are written on the back of the doll with what looks like to be a pencil; it makes me think the doll was made in 1909.

Condition: The doll is in good condition for its age, but there are some faint cracks and discolorations due to time. Please refer to the pictures.
    • ROSE O’NEILL WAS AN ARTIST AND BECAME POPULAR FOR HER KEWPIE CHARACTERS IN THE EARLY 1900’S. IN 1912, A GERMAN PORCELAIN MANUFACTURER STARTED MAKING KEWPIE DOLLS, AND THAT YEAR SHE AND HER SISTER WENT TO GERMANY TO SHOW THE PORCELAIN ARTISTS HOW TO MAKE THE DOLLS THE WAY SHE WANTED THEM. It is when the dream began!
