Keith Richards' Micawber
Named Micawber after a Charles Dickens character, this 1954 butterscotch blonde Fender Telecaster with maple neck and black pickguard was presented to Keith at his twenty-seventh birthday party by Eric Clapton. Keith had a number of modifications carried out, including changing the original bridge for a six-saddle solid brass version. He then had the low E string removed so that he could have the guitar set up as a five-string in open G tuning. The original stock single coil Telecaster neck pickup was replaced with a humbucker and the Telecaster bridge pickup has also been replaced with a Fender lap steel pickup. Micawber has been played by Keith in numerous recording sessions and live performances since 1971 and remains one of his go-to guitars.
