July 23, 1641, Concepcion set sail from Mexico in a flota of 30 ships. While negotiating the Florida Straits the fleet was caught in a violent hurricane which scattered and sank most of the ships. This coin was recovered in 1978 in what is now the waters off the Dominican Republic.
