Paul McCartney's 1963 Hofner 500/1 Beatle Bass without pickguard.

Paul McCartney played two 500/1 Violin basses during most of his time in The Beatles. This 1963 model is the one that became known as The Beatle Bass. First seen in the UK on ITV’s Ready Steady Go! in October 1963, this model soon became his main instrument and the one with which most people would recognise him and was used for almost all The Beatles’ remaining live performances, recordings and television appearances until their break up.
