Good condition.Covre very slightly worn. -- A fascinating selection from the sketchbooks of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, foremost exponent of the Glasgow School, whose highly original style influenced the whole field of architecture and the applied arts at the turn of the century. Mackintosh's habit of methodically recording anything that interested him on his travels made his sketchbooks into an endless source of inspiration. Though they served a number of purposes, such as experimentation with composition and as a record of private thoughts and reactions, the sketchbooks were essentially working books constantly referred to in the drawing office. As such the many delicate architectural drawings and tinted flower studies not only show a constant evolution in style, but also reveal the basis of many of Mackintosh's architectural schemes and decorative motifs. Here for the first time is an opportunity to compare Mackintosh's most sensitive flower studies, many reproduced in full colour, with intriguing examples from his architectural drawings, offering a unique insight into Mackintosh the artist, and Mackintosh the architect.
