Bemerkungen
From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). Author's name handwritten on cover, cober rubbed and bumped, a bit dog-eared, otherwise clean. - From the text: One of Pindar’s favorite topics is poetry itself. Scholars often glean the literary comments from his odes, assembling them into a patchwork version of a Pindaric ars poetica. Historians of Greek literature and criticism emphasize his literary judgments and his remarks on composition, for until the fourth century no other author says so much about those subjects. But we always tend to place Pindar’s ideas outside the mainstream of Greek thought.3 We have viewed his literary comments, too, in isolation, without positioning them in the history of Greek literary criticism as a whole.
