Swiss artist Eugen
Hartung (1897-1973) painted amusing vignettes starring cats dressed (and
behaving - sometimes - as humans). Full of lively action, details and
wonderfully imagined scenarios, the series featured long-suffering
cat-parents and their mischievous kittens. More often associated with
the publisher Alfred Mainzer of Long Island, look carefully for the
heart-shaped Hartung monogram which was often lost when the cards were
trimmed. The cards were printed in
Belgium on textured stock with deckle edges.
