Folio. 124 pages. The binding measures 14 inches tall by 10 1/2 inches wide. Hardcover bound in brown Victorian-era cloth with elaborate pictorial cover designs embossed in black and in gilt. The binding is rubbed and worn. Corners bumped and abraded. The binding shows some soiling from handling and is a bit dulled. Spine is sunned. Rear cover has a damp stain near the fore edge. Bevelled edges. Cloth is fraying at the edges. All edges gilt. The inner hinges are starting, and the text is toned and foxed. There is no copyright date in the book, but an early owner has inscribed it twice and dated it 1874. An inscription on the front flyleaf reads "Bettie M. Nash / March 9th, 1874 / Charlotte, N.C." The same person's inscription and 1874 date are at the top of the title page as well. A small green bookbinder's stamp at the bottom corner of the rear flyleaf reads, "Geo. W. Alexander / Binder / New York." Full-page illustrations throughout.
