Dimensions of 20 x 13.5 x 5.5 cms.
Weight approximately 0.270 kg without packaging.
Materials: Wood.
Presumed age: Mid 20th century.

Beautiful statuette of the Ashanti ethnic group, from Ghana.
The ovoid head is shaped like an Akwaba fertility doll, and Ashanti affiliation is not in question. However, this piece is used as a fan, not for fertility purposes.
Prestige object. Beautiful dark and shiny patina.
The statuette is fixed on the wooden base visible in the photos.

Provenance: Mr. Abdoulaye Bakayoko, international African art dealer, and one of the best African experts on African art. He is currently president of UNACI (National Union of Antiquaries of Côte d'Ivoire) - see the last two photos, Mr. Bakayoko is presented in the book "The Baoulé and their neighbors, Galerie Ilunga".
