Up for your consideration is this beautiful and rare antique Moroccan Bedouin amulet necklace! This piece is beautifully made, with lovely original patina. It consists of a teardrop shaped pendant which features a green glass faceted stone at the center. From this hangs six antique silver coins suspended from handmade chain and natural Mediterranean coral beads. The pendant itself is suspended from a large heavy handmade chain.
This piece is in overall excellent original condition. The pendant and chains are made from very low silver-to-no silver content white metal. This is usual with this particular style of Berber pendant. It is very rare to find them made in good silver. With an acid test it reacts briefly, so either the silver content is very low, or it is silver plated. The coins test as good silver. The coral beads are old natural Mediterranean precious coral which has not been treated in any way.
The pendant itself measures approximately 6 5/8" long from the top to the bottom of the coin dangles (large ring not included). The chain measures approximately 23" long overall. It weighs a total of 131 grams on my digital scale. The coins are dated 1320-1321, which dates them to the very early 1900's.
