1 HARRY WILKEN JR & Sr., &William Wilkes EMBOSSED BOTTLE/FLASK!.

The embossed marking at the top of the bottle is often referred to as the "NASTY WORD" era. The embossing states: Federal Law Forbids Sale or Reuse of This Bottle. This marking was required on all liquor bottles sold within the United States that were made between 1935 and 1964.Additional decorative embossing: Grain plants on the sides - since I assume this is a whiskey - I would guess this could be a Rye wheat? The founder's face is also embossed on the front of the bottle - with what looks like the distillery plant in the background. Embossing around the base gives the name of the family members at that time, I assume: Harry E. Wilken Jr., Harry E. Wilken Sr., William F. WilkenThe bottle manufacturer mark and codes are embossed on the base: The letters "W" and "T" in an inverted Triangle and the following numbers: D230 12-5/ M1645.(From internet research, I believe the W, T in the inverted triangle would indicate this bottle was made by the Whitall Tatum Company from New Jersey in the years 1922-1938. However, I am not an expert.)With the "nasty words" and the Whitall Tatum glass company, assume this bottle dates between 1935 and 1938. Again, I am not an expert, but I did attempt quite a bit of internet research."1892 - Harry E Wilkens, Sr. enters the distilling industry. Mr. Wilkens went to work for Schenley Distillery at some point in time. In 1936, The Wilken Family brand of blended whiskey is introduced by Schenley, I believe that is what this vintage liquor bottle is - 'Wilken Family Whiskey.' Distillery was in Schenley, PA."Seeking a companion blended whiskey to popularize, Schenley consulted Harry E. Wilken, chief distiller for Joseph S. Finch & Co., a Schenley subsidiary at Schenley, Pa. Distiller Wilken produced a formula for a blend of four-year-old whiskey, 16-month whiskey, and neutral spirits (alcohol and water). "Size: approx 6 1/2 inches tall; the length of the base is approx 3 inches - bottle is rather "flask" shaped.Condition: has the original top and you can't make out the original tax stamp on the top - the embossing is very strong and wonderful - the clear glass bottle does show some very very minor clouding, it is mostly clear
