I am very pleased to offer a large collection of paintings and drawings by listed British artist ARCA (1920-2010). Many depict West Country landscapes and architecture, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset are all well represented.  Some are unsigned but where that is the case I will provide a certificate of authenticity.

Here is a lovely drawing, a very period scene depicting sheep shearers working their way through a group of Herdwick sheep in Westmoreland. Titled by the artist lower left 'Shearing Herdwicks in Westmoreland'.   Herdwicks are a particularly hardy breed of sheep, traditionally found in the Lake District.

Note there is a portrait of a male nude on the reverse, shown in the fifth photograph above.

Not dated, estimated to be 1950s or 60s. One of the earlier pieces in the collection.

Unsigned so I will provide a CAO though note the title is clearly Cadman's handwriting.

Drawn on paper and in excellent original condition.  Well presented with an ivory coloured card mount within a very smart gilt frame which has an inset marblised type decoration.  The mount has slight cut marks at each corner and is probably hand made, otherwise in good vintage condition.  The frame is in excellent, but not new, condition.
Glazed and ready to hang.

Measures 45 x 55cm including the frame, the drawing only is 30 x 32cm.

Postage £9 to mainland UK, £30 to mainland Europe and £60 to the USA.  For other destinations please contact me for a postage quote.

Michael Cadman was a painter and art teacher born in Epsom, Surrey.  He studied at Wimbledon School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art (1941-4).  Between 1947 and 1968 he taught at Epsom School of Art.   Cadman was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and of the St Ives Society of Artists. He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal Academy and had many solo exhibitions with prestigious galleries including The Canaletto Gallery and the Whitehall Galleries.  His paintings were also reproduced on cards and calendars.  Cadman said that design, colour and atmosphere were most important in his work which often featured architectural and hedgerow themes, water reflections and coastal scenes.  There are many auction records for his watercolours, with prices up to £800 and many in the £200-300 range.
