Description

Object: Wooden Japanese bowl for washing sake cups (haisen) from the Meiji period (1900-15), decorated with gold lacquer on a red (inside) and black (outside) background.


Decoration: On the outside floral (peonies), on the inside the treasure ship (takarabune) of Japanese mythology.


Size: Diameter 14 cm (5.5"), height 8.5 cm (3.5").

Marks: None.

State: One insignificant chip to the footrim; some wear consistent with age (see pictures).
