What Makes this Poster So Rare?

It’s Picassos’ personal involvement that gives this poster its extraordinary value and worth. And now you too can own one. This ultra-rare poster features one of Picasso’s key motifs; the Dove of Peace. This the most important symbol of hope and the most famous emblem of the Peace Movement. In all of Picassos 100,000 prints, this is the only one he personally produced to solicit donations for a cause. Make a donation, receive a poster. Many heeded his call. This one of a kind poster with its historical significance has made it a prominent addition in many major museum collections around the world including The Tate, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Philadelphia Museum of Art to name a few. With only a very few remaining in private hands or galleries.

About the AMNISTIA:

Picasso created and sponsored the printing of the AMNISTIA to raise money for the victims of Francisco Franco, the fascist dictator on whose whim many Spaniards were cruelly thrown into prison and of the families, wives and children, many of whom were left destitute on the streets to fend for themselves.

Picasso put his money where his mouth was, he actively supported the Amnesty for Spain campaign and demanded that those held captive be released. It is in this work that Picasso uses the dove of peace to symbolize peace and freedom. The Dove of Peace itself was created in 1949. The “La Colombe et le Prisonnier” (The Dove and the Prisoner) was created in 1959. Pablo Picasso donated this design for use as a general poster by Amnesty International. And from this, Amnesty International USA created its famous lithograph called "The Prisoner and the Dove" and was used as the organizations first logo.
