Description
Object: Imari plate from the late Edo period (1820-60), decorated in underglaze blue as well as overglaze red, green, aubergine and gold.
Decoration: Mostly abstract; four reserves with scholars' objects. In the centre a phoenix.
Size: Diameter 22 cm (9").
Marks: "Dai Min sei ka nen sei" in Japanese kanji characters (underglaze blue) - a spurious Ming Chenghua reign mark.
State: Excellent - no cracks, chips or repairs. A little wear from stacking (see pictures).
