CASE: The yellow brass and gilt case is 53mm x 57mm in size.
DIAL: This gold dial displays Arabic numerals.

C 3-15 (The case is in very good condition, slightly worn)
D 3-6 (The dial is in very good condition,
patinated)
This is an antique pocket sundial,
compass, level, made by Johann Willebrand in Augsburg, not later than
1725. Johann Willebrand lived between 1658 and 1726, and was a top maker
of pocket sundials. The data ring gives major European cities elevation.
This is a real museum piece. It is complete and the compass works
great. One recently sold at Sotheby's for $8,400.00 Dollars.
The top of the sundial is hinged and a
curved scale is used to set your local latitude angle.
The sun's shadow cast by the sundial's
vane marks the local time. The top of the sundial can lay down flat, and both
the latitude scale and the sundial vane are hinged to lay flat for compact
storage.
On the underside of the piece are cities
from around the world along with where on the elevation pole the city lies to
be used in calculations. The correct time will show only if the local
latitude corresponds to the angle of the gnomon.
