Antique, Art Nouveau, sterling silver snuff box by Kerr & Co. dated 1880-1892. This pocket-style snuff box measures 2" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1/8" high when closed and weighs 30 grams. The art nouveau hand-hammered surface of this box has an intricately designed center monogram "shield" with a stylized nailed border. The inside of the box is designed with edge trims to hold fabric covers on either side (often have deteriorated over time). The axe and fasces hallmark of Kerr & Co., used from 1880-1892 is found on one inside edge along with the number of the item in their well regarded toiletries lines. This piece is in overall good condition with lovely art nouveau design, with apparent wear and tear and patina, including a slight bend of the side panels, which is typical for such side-opening boxes from use and is only apparent when the box is closed.
