On the obverse of the coin in the center of the circle formed by a beaded pattern, there is an image of the Small National Emblem of Ukraine framed on both sides by branches of a guelder rose. Above the coat of arms there is the date 1996, the year of minting. On the circle of coin inscriptions: top UKRAINE, below in three lines 2 MILLION RUBLES. Under the shield of the State Emblem there are the marking and the standard of the precious metal Hell 925 and its purity of 31.1
Reverse of the Independence Coin


The reverse of the coin depicts the figure of a young Ukrainian woman in national dress who is holding a branch of a flowering guelder rose in her right hand and with her left hand holds a laurel wreath in it over a relief map of Ukraine in the right side of the coin's field. At the point of the map, which corresponds to the location of the capital, there is an image of the state flag of Ukraine, which cloth is flying over the map. On the circle of coin inscriptions: above INDEPENDENCE, below 24th AUGUST, 1991.
