From my own collection. Rare is not just the only word for this piece of analogue sound history!
I have owned nine SONY WM-504's, 5 from new. I had sold five of them many years ago.
Now I am selling my remaining 504's.
There are certain Walkman's that are called "Ultra Rare", "Legendary" & "The Holy Grail", the WM-504 is one such Walkman.
All my 504's were brought outside of the UK when new. I never found a new 504 for sale in the UK between 1988 & 1993, they were that rare!
This very clean example that has had the following work done to it to ensure it works for the next 20 years before needing another service: The playback head has been freshly diamond polished, cleaned & demagnetized. The playback head azimuth has been calibrated. Both capstans have been re polished. Both rubber pinch rollers have been replaced with brand new. Drive pulley belt has been replaced with brand new. Large forward spool gear has been fully repaired. Clutch gear has been fully repaired. Two smaller gears have been replaced with new old stock. All gears & switch gear have been checked, cleaned & lubricated. All capacitors have been checked. 3.5mm headphone jack has been replaced. Playback gain level has been calibrated high. Speed playback has been calibrated to 3050Hz
Every function works 100% correctly & the sound is very punchy & very dynamic! It may well sound even better than when it came from the SONY factory in 1988.
I guarantee any other working 504 for sale has not had as much work as this one has, to make sure it works for the next 20+ years. Much time, effort & knowledge goes into this work.
There is no battery acid damage to either the "Gumstick" battery bay or the removable "AA" battery holder.
The cassette bay door/Walkman front cover has age related marks on it.
The cassette bay is near spotless for a 35 year old Walkman.
Some of the textured matte grey covering has rubbed away in small areas to the rear!
This also has the cassette bay door cassette loading instructions clear protective slip, as shown in the photos. This again was normally thrown away with the packaging.

The NC-6WM battery is the original it came with. It has no guarantee that it will work as it is 34 years old! You can buy a modern "GumStick" battery that lasts longer then they use to & charge on any charger for no more than £10 on ebay right now. I can forward the link.
The last photo shows this very 504, after rebuilding & re attaching both the PCB & playback head.
Now a word of warning to unscrupulous buyers:
All the internals of my Walkman's have security microdots placed! These are applied within on all key component areas internally. So people who swap their none working innards for my fully overhauled, working, mint examples are always caught out if the microdots are missing on return!
No refund is given if I cannot find my microdot markers inside any returned Walkman!
