ALVIN MEYER (1892-1972) was a well-recognized artist and sculptor. He trained at the American Academy in Rome, the Maryland Institute of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and was a student of Paul Manship. In 1926, he was a winner of the Prix de Rome. By 1929, he headed the sculpture department for Chicago’s giant architectural firm, Holabird and Root. As an architectural sculptor, Meyer designed the Chicago Board of Trade building and the Chicago Daily News Plaza, among others. He had exhibited his work at the Chicago Galleries Association, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Fort Myers (Florida) Historical Museum.
