Charles Amand Durand was a French artist and engraver who perfected the art of restoring the old wooden and copper plates of the Old Master engravers using the art of photogravure. This would involve transferring the original image on to a new plate by photography and then etching it before printing on to paper thus recreating the image as originally made.  Durand is considered the  master of this process and many examples of his work are held in important institutional collections around the world, for example the Metropolitan Museum of New York
Another impression of this print was sold at auction in 2014 for £300.
