Dutch architect and urban planner, was born in Purmered in 1899. An exponent of constructivism, he later became a collaborator of JJP Oud following him in the functionalist experience. He studied drawing at the "Royal School" in Amsterdam and perfected himself in the "Grandre' Molier Verhagen and KoK" offices in Rotterdam. In 1927 he studied urban planning at the Bauhaus in Dessau. In 1939 he became director of the institute of industrial art in Amsterdam, in 1948 of the academy of figurative arts in Dresden, in 1950 of the higher institute of art in Berlin.
Among his most important works we mention: Amsterdam Theosophical church (1926, in collaboration with LC Van Der Vleicht and JAWeissenhoe), Rotterdam "Van Nelle tobacco manufactories".
