A gorgeous rustic old copper measure from Nottinghamshire, Victorian era.

It is a grain or dry goods measure, twin handled and has a Stirling shape.

There is no unit of measurement stamped on but it has a crown over N on the front which is the Nottinghamshire mark and the district no. 2 beneath which was probably Retford at the time.

The marks in Nottinghamshire did not tend to use the monarch initials.

On one of the handles it is marked RB this could be the maker or stand for Borough of Retford.

It has a fine silver plated band around the centre and decorative chunky handles.

It's got a real rustic feel to it and aside from being a measure it could be put to many uses, it could hold fresh cut herbs in the kitchen, flowers on the patio or even your toothbrush in bathroom.

Dating from around 1840 I doubt that it has ever left Nottinghamshire for the entireity of its life.

Approx measurements:
6" height
8" width from handle to handle
