The August 23, 1968 edition of Life magazine featured two major stories that reflected the tumultuous political climate of the time. The cover story showcased two deputy chiefs, John Hartnett and Frank Lavelle, who were in charge of security at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The headline read "Security Alert for Democratic Convention - the Men in Charge."

Inside, readers found another significant story entitled "Law and Order - Volatile Campaign Issue." The article explored the tensions between the law enforcement establishment and the civil rights movement, political activists and anti-war protestors. Other articles in this edition delved into the emerging counterculture movement and the changing landscape of American transportation.

Overall, this particular issue of Life magazine captured some of the major political and social issues of the time, with its coverage of the tense political conventions and the issue of law and order reflecting the challenges facing the nation during this period.

This magazine is a time capsule from a previous era, with some examples in my collection going back over 120 years old.  The conditions of media of this age can include fading, yellowing, cracking spines, odor, missing pages, loose or missing covers, and much more.  I will try to alert you as to the condition of what I am listing.  Each magazine I do a brief check of it's overall condition, but I cannot promise that something such as missing pages, or clipped photos could escape my glance. Thanks for checking out this old time classic!

I will be listing hundreds of vintage magazines and media in the coming weeks and months.   Keep a look out for additional listings, and thanks for supporting this cancer survivor and small business!
