This listing is for MDF wall panelling strips. These can be glued to a smooth wall to make up a wide variety of wall panelling styles.

We have been making and supplying panelling kits to UK customers for a number of years and have many thousands of happy clients. We have used this experience to develop a DIY range of wall panelling packs for clients to have a very cost effective way to achieve a professional result.

Our packs are sold in lengths of 120cm and we only use premium Medite branded moisture resistant MDF which is universally recognised as the best product for open-backed wall panelling.

Each pack consists of 10 lengths and this is an ideal amount to panel a wall in a basic batten and rail design to 2m long to a height of 140cm, or longer if you go lower.

Panelling strips are available in 6mm or 9mm thicknesses and in widths from 7 to 10cm wide.

Finally we offer a priming service for all strips. We paint the strips in high quality Zinnser primer.

MDF can have a furry cut edge and this can ruin paint finishes- we recommend always priming and sanding the cut edge before fitting.

We can make bespoke sizing so please contact us about this.

Simple ordering instructions
  • Measure the width of your wall in cm
  • Get some graph paper or use MS Excel to plan your panelling
  • Work out the number of 120cm long horizontal battens required to give you a header and footer rail for your panelling across the entire width- footer is optional if panelling above skirting. 2 x strips to cover 2.4m, 3 x strips for 3 to 3.5m etc.
  • Choose the thickness (6 or 9mm) and width (up to 10cm wide) of your battens and finish you need (unfinished or primed).
  • Tip- if your skirting has a narrow top then opt for 6mm thickness to avoid your panelling sticking further out than your skirting.
  • Divide your wall width by the number of 120cm tall vertical sections you want to have and account for the width of your chosen battens, for instance a 3m wide wall would have approximately 7 vertical sections with 6 gaps at approx 38-40cm wide.
  • Buy the number of packs needed to provide you with the number of battens you need. Don't worry if you do not buy enough as you can order more easily and the packs will be identical.
Tip - If you buy 10cm wide battens then a 10cm footer and rail, plus the standard 120cm tall verticals will give you a final kit height of 140cm.

Fitting instructions
  1. Fit horizontal footer sections first to each wall along the bottom using grab adhesive, slide sections in to remove any gaps
  2. Stick vertical sections moving left to right, measure gap between battens as per your calculations, use a spirit level to ensure the sections are square
  3. You can use small headless nails for difficult to fit parts where the wall isn't flat
  4. Fit top rail section and any trim you have.
  5. All joints flush- joints push closed
  6. Fill any gaps with filler and sand back with a fine 240 grit sandpaper when dry
  7. Prime with undercoat (we can provide primed strips to save this step)
  8. Paint with final colour

Panel material.
All our panelling is made out of high-quality specialist Medite branded premium moisture resistant MDF. This is an exceptionally smooth material that doesn’t swell if it gets wet. Ideal for sanding and painting it is much easier to sand perfectly smooth than normal MDF- including the edges. Medite costs 50-100% more than standard MDF and is the best material for MDF panelling- accept no cheaper alternative! If it is brown it is cheap MDF, Medite is green.

Pre-priming service
We offer a pre-priming and sanding service. We undercoat the visible facings of each panel in white high-performance primer which sands very smooth for final painting.

Important note on measuring your wall for kit sizing.
When measuring walls, measure at three points for width and your chosen height and allow a 2-5mm total margin for error gap for width and height. Walls, floors and ceilings are never exactly level and square. Any resulting gap is easily covered with decorator's caulk or filler prior to painting.
