Deborah Jones was a self taught painter, best known for her part fantasy, part reality childhood scenes, still lifes, trompe l'oeil and shops, particularly antique shops.   A woman who carved out her own career despite family opposition, she worked as a lathe operator during WW2 and then moved to London and began painting friends in the ballet world and sketching people in pubs to make a living.  She then began designing and painting sets, producing props and costumes for the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, the Edinburgh Festival and also working in films and tv.
An exhibition of her paintings at Libertys in 1957 established her reputation and she then showed regularly with the Alexander Gallery in Bristol where she settled,  also the Florentine Gallery in Brighton and in Greenwich Village, New York.  Later exhibitions include a notable one at Harrods in 1994.  There are many auction records for her work with prices to £1500.
