This is a really delightful French vintage porcelain wall mountable SEL (salt) box with wooden lid. Made for the French market in former Czechoslovakia.

With the most stunning purple iridescent glaze it is decorated with purple flower, a clematis or passion flower maybe?

Stamped Czechoslovakia on the base, probably by Ditmar Urbach as that's who made most of these. Ditmar Urbach were a quality Bohemian maker renown for porcelain decorative art deco and practical household items. The country was only known as Czechoslovakia from 1918 - 1993, this container is most likely to be from before the communist era of 1948 - 1989.

This will have been an essential item in a French country kitchen. A lovely display item for your own kitchen and would be a great prop for any period production.

Don't miss your chance to have this charming and practical piece of French kitchenalia in your home.

In VERY GOOD usable vintage condition, with just a hairline crack down the back and a small surface chip. The hinge screws are a little rusty too. Nothing which will affect its use or spoil its authentic vintage charm. Please see all photos and remember it is probably over 70 years old, pre-owned and pre-loved.
