On the original packaging, this garment was described as a "Ladies' and Misses' Dress. V-neck collar attaches to yoke in front with buttons. High waist with attached button sash ties in back. Two-piece straight skirt."

Summer Dresses from the 1930s like this were made of a variety of fabrics including Rayon prints, rayon canton crepe, silk crepe and organdy. The common colors for garments like this were blue lilac, ash rose, national blue and apple mint.

This 1930s dress package has a copy of the original artwork on the front cover. On the back cover are a sizing chart, a material requirements chart and a pattern diagram. Inside the booklet are extensive Directions for Making the Garment. We also include the Past Patterns Guide to Editing and Modifying patterns due to bust size. The patterns come on 1 36” wide sheet and are hand-drawn, emulating the originals.

Our first goal, at Past Patterns, is to make patterns of existing antique garments from which you can make reproductions.

We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals.

The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history.

Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them.

Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment.

The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time.

Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history.

Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit.
