Franklin D. Roosevelt FDR Rare 1932 Presidential Campaign Cane Pewter Handle.

This Cane belonged to my grandfather and he passed it down to me years ago. Awesome piece of history but I am finally deciding to part ways with it!

As for the condition, the cane is in good shape and is very sturdy. No wiggle at all. The cane is 34” in length the and the handle is 5” in width. The pewter handle looks great for being 91 years old and has never been clean or polished. The wooden shaft has some small nicks and dings in it and at the bottom of the wood shaft, there is about a 1 inch chip on the wood.

Don’t know much about the cane but below is some more info I pulled together from a similar post.

FDR PERSONALLY ORDERED THE DESTRUCTION OF THESE CANES; THUS ACCOUNTING FOR THEIR EXTREME RARITY!!!!!

PRESENTED HERE IS AN ORIGINAL 1932 FDR PEWTER-HANDLED & WOOD PRESENTATIONAL CANE.

THE CANE'S PEWTER HANDLE BARES RAISED LETTERING AS FOLLOWS:

"FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT" ON ONE SIDE.

"FOR PRESIDENT 32" ON THE OTHER.

THIS MUSEUM-WORTHY 91 YEAR OLD POLITICAL ARTIFACT WAS CREATED WITH THE INTENT THAT IT WOULD BE DISTRIBUTED AS AN FDR PRSIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN GIVEAWAY.

IT BELONGS TO A LONG TRADITION OF CAMPAIGN CANES THAT DATES BACK TO 1868; WHEN CANES WERE FIRST CREATED FOR GRANT & SEYMOUR!

WHEN FDR SAW THE CANES, HE BECAME FURIOUS...AS HE BELIEVED THEY WOULD BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMENT/REMINDER ON HIS POLIO-RELATED DISABILITIES.

HE ORDERED THE CANES TO BE DESTROYED...

IN 1976, CARTER AND FORD EACH HAD ALUMINUM CANES DESIGNED FROM THE MODEL OF THIS FDR PEWTER CANE.
