Fran Taylor started Gay Fad Studios in 1939 with a personal investment of $30. Her immediate success painting metal wastepaper baskets started her meteoric rise. In 1945, Taylor moved the company from Michigan to Lancaster, Ohio. It was here that she blazed a pioneering trail in midcentury glassware and shattered norms one glass at a time.
Throughout the years, Gay Fad Studios developed multiple methods to decorate glassware with brilliant accuracy and durability. And with each piece, Taylor strived to make art accessible through every day, functional items. Gay Fad Studios closed 60 years ago in 1962, but its spirit lived on.
