GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION

This sale is for a large size vintage hardback edition entitled “The British Army Book,” by Paul Danby and Lieut.-Col. and Brevet Col. Cyril Field, R.M.L.I., illustrated with 2 double-page COLOUR plates and 32 illustrations in black and white, including reproduction of actual photographs from the seat of war and a double-page COLOUR frontispiece.

It was published by Blackie and Son Limited, of London, and is undated, circa 1916.

The Red Army Book (1904) by Paul Danby was a standard and popular work on the British Army.  It formed the basis of this present work, which brings the story of the British Army down to the Great War now raging.  The work of revision was performed by Lieut.-Col. Cyril Field, R.M.L.I., who is also responsible for several new chapters.

The contents include:

·       The British Army, Its Foundation and Renown

·       “The Fourth Arm”: Airships and Aeroplanes and Their Use in War

·       The Royal Regiment of Artillery, Its History, Organization, and Exploits

·       The Royal Engineers: Soldiers Who Build Bridges and Blow Up Forts

·       British Cavalry, Its Dashing Exploits and History

·       The Lads in the Kilt: Stories of the Gallant Highland Regiments

·       The Royal Marines: Something About Our “Sea Soldiers”

·       The Territorials: Britain’s Second Line of Defence on Land

·       War Horses: The Charger’s Renown in History

·       Royal Soldiers: British Sovereigns who have Fought in War

·       Prisoners of War: Their Fate in Ancient and Modern Times

…and much more…

The book measures 7.75 inches x 6 inches x 1.8 inches and has 284 pages + illustrations.

The book is in good, neat condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little grubby to the original decorative cloth hardback cover, with a previous owner’s pencil inscription/signature at the front, a little light foxing near the covers, and no other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages.  There is no dust-jacket.

A wonderfully illustrated vintage edition.

Unwinsbooks have held down shipping prices from 2013-2020 in spite of small increases in postage costs.  However, Royal Mail Prices dramatically changed on 1 July 2020, as a result of exceptional cost increases outside of their control, so we are reluctantly having to pass on pricing increases for parcels being sent overseas (primarily USA, New Zealand, Australia and the Rest of the World).

These costs are a direct result of:

“Royal Mail, always aim to deliver the best value international services. We fully recognise that these changes are significant. This was a decision we reluctantly took but is necessary in view of the increased costs borne by Royal Mail.”

If the Royal Mail reduce their charges in the future (in particular what they term “Temporary Air Carrier Supplement Pricing”) unwinsbooks will reduce the international costs accordingly.

Unwinsbooks always obtain a proof of postage receipt from the Royal Mail.  Packages over Royal Mail size rules may be sent by courier (customer will be informed).

Goods will be WELL PACKAGED by Unwins Books and dispatched once payment has cleared.
