Men's Original WWII Era SS Movado Military Watch w/ Correct Strap - SERVICED

In 1881, during a regional watch celebration in the Jura town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Achille Ditesheim became inspired to seek his own fortune in the watch industry and began producing pocket watches. His talent soon became evident, his fortunes increased and he welcomed his brothers Leopold and Isidor into the business. The House of Ditesheim then became known as "L.A.I. Ditesheim."

The brothers copyrighted several names for their timepieces; however, it was the name gleaned from the Esperanto dictionary — Movado, for "always in motion" — that became known throughout the world.

Volumes have been written about the daring genius of the Movado factories. Always willing to take chances and push the boundaries of normal timekeeping, they were the first to develop a long watch curved to the wrist (Polyplan), the first wristwatch with the date aperture in the broad bezel, and a Reverso-type chronograph in 1939. While still producing fine timepieces, they have a place firmly held in horological history as one of the most daring, innovative timepiece manufacturers in history.

Movado also became known for their WWII era "Sport" or "Military" models: thick stainless steel watches with waterproof screw-backs and Minimalist lugs. This completely original example features a mesmeric dial with a minutes track and an inner hour track marked highlighted by original Arabic numerals and sub-seconds register. Luminous baton hands round out an impressive face indeed.

Its hefty unissued, military-style stainless case is in remarkably good original condition, the back of which unscrews to reveal a classic ruby-jewel Movado movement — cleaned, oiled and calibrated to be worn everyday.

We've taken the liberty of outfitting the watch in a correctly recreated khaki canvas strap and matching buckle. As this watch very easily could have been worn during military service and through WWII, the strap is wholly appropriate.

Measuring 32mm in diameter and 40mm lug-to-lug, this extraordinary example of Movado’s craftsmanship is worthy to be worn and bragged about.
