This is a rarer offering for me as usually most

that I offered are slab sawn cut, but this is a rare treat as the log has been quartered and then quarter sawn- this is true quarter sawn cut material with vertical grain and completely air dried/seasoned, harvested from Eastern Virginia- not the typical slab sawn cut & commercial kiln dried maple. Violin, acoustic and arch top builders typically prefer naturally air dried and seasoned wood as the cellular structure stays intact & not collapsed compare to kiln dried application. Book-matched option of front shown with LP single cut template overlay as well as the backside for reference- see photo’s.

If you have been looking endlessly for that “one and only eastern maple” to capture the “essence” one vintage correct 1958-1960 Les Paul* for your dream re-top conversion with a “classic and traditional” figuring that is timeless with your aged burst finish, this eastern maple with “fiddleback pinstripe flame” is an ideal candidate for you!

Each panel is extra thick approximately 1.25” thick. Each panel will require additional jointer planning so both faces are flat before glue up and then required to drum sanded so both faces are flat; should net a generous 1” plus starting thickness for a deep dish carved top with the end result of 5/8” finish carved thickness. Side edge has been rip lined cut and will require additional surfacing prior to butt joint glue up to form a center seam.

Rough surfaced planed 2 face. Both side edge has been rough sawn/ripped cut- the one side edge has blade burn marks from the table saw blade and it is in the surface that will clean up. Will require to be jointed planed side edge that will be butt jointed for glue up. This book-match set will require to be jointed planed and surface so it is flat with an even thickness (should net a workable starting thickness of over 1” plus) as shown existing condition it is 1.25” thick per panel. This will need properly acclimation to your shop prior to fabrication. Photographed outdoors with natural lighting conditions.  Ends sealed with Anchor seal. *****COMMENTS: Has mineral streak deposit, slit bark incursion that is outside of the LP outline pattern. There are some horizontal dirt marks on the backside. The backside of the non cut-away halve has a fine peach fuzz of unsurfaced area at the bottom. This piece is dense and hard which caused planer tear outs and chip outs when it was ran into the planer- this book-match set will clean up easily at 1” thickness with further surfacing.
