4 Cups (One quart) comfortably - Tested. The whistle instead of a screeching loud high-pitch is more like a hissing pitch (see and listen to video). Will still get your attention without driving you to ears to hurt or waking up a family member. Flip down the lever in the handle to flip the spout lid to a stay in the open position, so no need to hold the lid open while you are pouring.
We liked that the large rounded handle was high enough that you could pickup the kettle while it was steaming madly and move the kettle off the burner without having the steam near your hand.
