"L. Plaxico b, M. Strickland ts, A. Norris tp, M. Bejerano p & kb, L. Cordew ds, K. K. Bell per, Eighty-Eights 2003. Five of the nine tracks of this live performance are originals, showing that Plaxico is not only a great bassist but also a very talented composer. The band is playing highly energetic contemporary jazz with complex structures and sophisticated soloing and two wonderful ballads as well (Dedicated to you, You don`t know what love is). I know Plaxico and Marcus Strickland but the other musicians I don`t. But one should bear them in mind because these are great musicians each. The piano, the drums, the (muted) trumpet – wow! The sound is good, rich of colour, good soundstage and imaging, dynamic; the bass should be a bit more precise." |
