This pamphlet relates the beginnings of Presbyterian mission work in Alaska, and gives particular accounts of Fort Wrangell, Sitka, Haines, Willard, Boyd, and Jackson.

Sheldon Jackson, D.D. (1834-1909) b. Minaville, NY. Jackson graduated from Union College in 1855, and from Princeton Seminary in 1858. He had a very active and successful ministry as a missionary in the western United States and is credited with starting hundreds of churches. In 1877 his focus turned to Alaska, traveling extensively and seeking to improve the conditions of the native peoples. He was appointed the First General Agent of Education in Alaska by President Benjamin Harrison.
