Selling here is a H/C copper plate from Icones plantarum medicinalium, Abbildungen von Arzneygewächsen by Johannes Zorn (1739 Kempten 1799). Johannes Zorn was a German pharmacist, botanist and botanical illustrator. After his studies in pharmacy, Zorn became an apothecary in his hometown.
He made extensive trips across Europe to collect medicinal plants, and between 1779 and 1790 published in Nurnberg 6 volumes of "Icones plantarum medicinalium", in which he illustrated and described over 600 medicinal plants. He also published in Amsterdam with Oskamp, D.L., Afbeeldingen der artseny-gewassen met derzelver Nederduitsche en Latynsche beschryvingen (1796-1800). Being also passionate about the flora of the New World published between 1785 and 1789 Dreyhundert auserlesene amerikanische Gewächse: the majority of the plates of this books were taken from Jacquin's Selectarum Stirpium Americanarum Historia, Zorn's plates were smaller than the original work and terefore more affordable than the very expensive original.
