This antique silk embroidery mourning sampler tapestry is a true masterpiece of American culture. Created in 1797, this original piece features intricate embroidery. The medium-sized tapestry is made of high-quality silk and is framed to preserve its beauty.

The production technique used to create this tapestry is embroidery, and it is entirely handmade. This antique piece is an original and is a stunning representation of American textile art and fiber art.

As you can see from the photos, the thinner fabric areas have some loss and some little pieces are even floating around underneath the glass. I’m certainly not an expert on samplers, but this is a very interesting early piece. There is a hand written note on the back however, I am unable to verify the information which states that the family came over on the Mayflower. And it appears that it is wrapped on a wooden backing, and the glass does not shift in the frame at all. It is sold as is as found so please look at the photos closely. And it measures approximately 16 3/4 x 23“ framed, and the viewable image size is approximately 13 1/2 x 19 1/2“. Thanks for your interest..
