This sale is for a vintage edition entitled “Pigs Have Wings,” by P. G. Wodehouse (1881-1975).

 

It was published by Penguin Books Ltd., of London, in 1984 (the FIRST EDITION was published in 1952).

 

A comic novel.  The absent-minded Lord Emsworth finds himself once again embroiled in fierce rivalry in the pig-rearing arena with his neighbour, the obese baronet Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe. With Emsworth's champion Empress of Blandings in line for a third straight victory in the local show and Parsloe bringing in a ringer, suspicions run high. Meanwhile, Blandings has its full complement of romantic entanglements. The ever-resourceful Gally is on hand to help out.

 

The front cover art is by “Ionicus” the pen-name of Joshua Charles Armitage (1913–1998), best-known for illustrating the covers of these Penguin paperback editions of books by P. G. Wodehouse, although for 40 years he contributed cartoons and drawings to the Punch satirical magazine as well as illustrations to other books.

 

The book measures 7.1 inches x 4.5 inches and has 235 pages. 

 

The book is in good, neat condition for a softback of its age, with a previous owner’s signature at the front, a little foxing near the covers and to the rims, with no other ink or pencil markings in the book.  The binding is good with light creasing along the spine and no loose or missing pages.

 

A good, neat copy of this vintage edition.

Unwinsbooks have held down shipping prices from 2013-2020 in spite of small increases in postage costs.  However, Royal Mail Prices dramatically changed on 1 July 2020, as a result of exceptional cost increases outside of their control, so we are reluctantly having to pass on pricing increases for parcels being sent overseas (primarily USA, New Zealand, Australia and the Rest of the World). 

 

These costs are a direct result of: 

 

• An increase of more than 100% in the fees the US Postal Service (USPS) charges for the delivery of international mail.

 

• Securing air freight at inflated market costs due to a 95% reduction in air passenger flights globally. This has not affected domestic or postage within the EU.

If the Royal Mail reduce their charges in the future (in particular what they term “Temporary Air Carrier Supplement Pricing”) unwinsbooks will reduce the international costs accordingly.
