This sale is for a
vintage edition entitled “Metals in the
Service of Man,” by Dr. William
Alexander and Dr. Arthur Street, illustrated with 34 photographic plates, 55
illustrations in the text and 17 tables.
It was published
by Penguin Books Ltd., of Harmondsworth, Middlesex, in 1962 and is one of the wonderful
vintage “Pelican Original” series.
Dr. William
Alexander and Dr. Arthur Street both graduated in the early 1930s from
Birmingham University, where they studied metallurgy and conducted researches. Dr. Street was Managing Director of a
well-known diecast company. Dr.
Alexander was Technical Director of a company known worldwide for its technical
services and supplies in the foundry industry.

The book measures 7.1
inches x 4.3 inches and has 320 pages + photographic plates.
The book is in good,
neat condition for a softback of its age, with minor wear to the cover. There
are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the
book. The binding is used but still good
with a light crease along the spine and no loose or missing pages.
